Board members help lead Hollow Oak Land Trust and ensure the organization’s long-term strength, mission focus, and effective stewardship. Board service is a meaningful leadership role for individuals who are passionate about land conservation and community impact.
Serving on the board is a chance to shape the future of the land and trails our community relies on. Board members work alongside fellow volunteers and staff to make sure Hollow Oak can protect greenspace today and care for it for generations to come. You don’t need to be a conservation expert to contribute. Skills in areas like finance, law, fundraising, marketing, planning, and community relations are all valuable, as is a genuine commitment to our mission.
Board members typically:
- Provide governance and strategic direction: set the vision for the organization and make decisions that keep it on solid footing
- Support fundraising and community engagement: help secure the resources Hollow Oak needs and build relationships with donors, partners, and neighbors
- Participate in board and committee meetings: bring ideas, ask questions, and help move projects forward
- Help oversee organizational priorities and long-term planning: ensure our work stays focused on conservation, stewardship, and community benefit
- Advocate for Hollow Oak’s mission: be an ambassador for our work throughout the broader community
Time & Commitment: Board meetings are scheduled quarterly, and committee involvement varies. Board service generally includes regular meetings plus participation in a committee. Many board members find that serving on a committee is where they can put their particular skills and interests to work.
Is board service right for you? If you’re passionate about land conservation, enjoy working collaboratively, and are ready to take on a leadership role, we’d love to hear from you. If you’re not sure you’re ready for the board, committee volunteering is a great way to get to know Hollow Oak and our work first.
