This fall, Hollow Oak Land Trust was proud to be featured in Going Greenway—a documentary created by 2025 capstone and master’s students from the Point Park University School of Communication. The film brings to life the people, places, and partnerships behind one of Hollow Oak’s most ambitious efforts to date: the Montour Woods Greenway.
The Story Behind the Greenway
Going Greenway follows the unfolding story of how a shared vision becomes a connected landscape. Through interviews and on-the-ground footage, the students capture the collaboration, dedication, and hands-on work required to transform forests, stream valleys, and neighborhoods into a thriving greenway network.
More Than a Trail
The documentary highlights what makes a greenway more than just a trail. It explores how protected corridors:
- Connect communities to nature
- Support wildlife habitat
- Safeguard water quality
- Invite people of all ages to explore, enjoy, and care for the land
Viewers are guided through the Montour Woods Conservation Area and surrounding landscapes, seeing firsthand how a 10-mile loop trail is linking parks, neighborhoods, and the regional Montour Trail.
Why It Matters to Hollow Oak
For Hollow Oak Land Trust, the Montour Woods Greenway represents more than infrastructure—it embodies our mission to protect and connect greenspace throughout the Pittsburgh Airport Corridor. This project is creating lasting connections between conservation areas, public parks, and communities, while strengthening stewardship and access for generations to come.
Thank You, Point Park University
We are deeply grateful to the Point Park University students for their creativity and dedication in telling this story. Their work not only documents progress already made, but also reminds us that conservation is a shared journey—built by many hands, strengthened by partnerships, and rooted in community.
